About WebXash
WebXash is a browser launcher for the Xash3D engine, giving you a place to choose game data and start Half-Life or Counter-Strike 1.6. Its Half-Life demo choices offer a short way to begin, while the folder and ZIP options use files from your own copy. The important first decision is which game or demo you want, followed by how you will provide its data.
For a full game, keep the original directory structure. Select the parent folder containing valve and, for Counter-Strike, cstrike; a ZIP should retain those folders too. After loading, choose the game directory and set useful launch options such as fullscreen. Half-Life saves can be managed and downloaded from the launcher, while Counter-Strike uses a separate multiplayer setup. Start with a demo before tackling imported files or a server connection.
Start a game with WebXash
- Choose a Half-Life demo, or load your own game data with Open game Folder or Open ZIP.
- Select the game directory after folder loading and adjust the launcher’s fullscreen options.
- Manage Half-Life saves or enter a compatible server address for multiplayer.
Beginner tips
- Select the folder containing valve/cstrike, rather than the individual files inside either directory.
- Keep valve and any companion game folders at the top level of a ZIP instead of flattening the archive.
- Download a Half-Life save you want to keep; Counter-Strike does not use this save manager.
Play in your browser
Full games need your own compatible data; the supplied demos are limited. Use a keyboard and mouse, and enter a server address directly for the documented multiplayer setup.
