About OpenTTD

OpenTTD is a transport-company simulation built around moving passengers and goods between places that need them. You construct the infrastructure, buy vehicles and set the orders that make the network work. Roads, railways, docks and airports are different tools for the same question: how can you create a service whose income justifies the cost of building and maintaining it?

Begin with one simple connection rather than a map-wide plan. A short bus route teaches stations, depots and orders; a small rail link introduces the extra space and planning trains require. Watch whether vehicles are collecting useful loads and arriving where the cargo belongs. Then improve the route before adding another branch. The pleasure comes from seeing a working system grow, but more track or more vehicles only helps when the existing service has a reason to be there.

How to play

  • Build stations and transport links between towns and industries.
  • Buy vehicles and give them orders to move passengers or cargo.
  • Reinvest income while expanding capacity and improving the efficiency of your network.

Beginner tips

  • Start with one short route and confirm that every vehicle has useful orders.
  • Place stations close enough to the town or industry they should serve.
  • Keep cash for running costs and expand only after the first connection starts earning.

Play in your browser

DOS.Zone hosts a browser build of OpenTTD, an open-source transport simulation based on Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Use the host’s available save and multiplayer options; a mouse makes construction easier.
